I had to giggle when a girlfriend asked me if there was Such a thing as Maternity Leave Insurance. That’s an alternative health insurance request, that’s for sure! Insurance companies make money from selling polices that no one claims from, so why on earth would they sell a policy that someone would most likely be claiming on simply confirmed by their request for cover. Now Maternity insurance, otherwise known as pregnancy insurance cover, is another matter. Any couple that anticipate potential problems with carrying child, or child birth, might get some comfort knowing they have comprehensive cover. But once again, it would be difficult to walk into an insurance office 6 months up the duff applying for such a policy. Pregnancy insurance is usually considered for healthy women prior to conception. As for the maternity leave insurance, you’ve got no chance. Best options is a few week pay, or partial pay, from an employer, but even if you’re a man or women applying for that, the best you’ll get for more than a couple of weeks paid salary is no pay, but your job left open for a duration.
